In the movie Kingdom of Heaven there is a phrase that is repeated throughout the movie. The phrase is “God wills it!” This phrase has a big importance in the movie, and can also be seen in records in history that suggest that this phrase could justify anything. For example, in the movie a troop of Christian soldiers wanted to attack a Muslim caravan, and for convincing the other people that were with them they just said “God wills it!” Also, this phrase was used a lot in the crusades because everyone in them believed that if they went to fight they will have a place in heaven for them; so everything was done for God and because God wanted it, “God wills it!”
The phrase “God wills it!” can tell us that this time period was very religious. This period was a time that everyone believed in a God and everyone did everything for that god. Also, the Christian church had a big influence on people because they told the people that if they went to fight in the crusades, they will have a place in heaven if they died, because “God wills it!” This phrase was used very much by Christians in the crusades because the crusades were pretty much for religious reasons. Christians used this phrase when they were going to attack a Muslim village or battalion. This period was a time were only three word could justify the end of lives of innocent children and women, a murder, a rape, torture and war.

The crusades were wars that were started by the Christian church that told the people that if they went and fight in the crusades they were going to get a place in heaven. Everyone that went in search of the holy land fought and killed Muslims or “infidels” because that was what God wanted; because “God wills it!” this phrase was used a lot in the crusades and, as said before, this could justify murders, rape or wars.
